Going down Naqb el Hawa towards Sheikh Awaad you pass a rock with ancient undecipherable inscriptions the Jabaliya call Surijani.
Exiting the narrow pass and the ring of black volcanic rock, you come to a open valley where the tomb of Sheikh Awaad stands. Sheikh Awaad was a hakim, a wise man and a doctor of herbal medicine, who had prophetic gifts and a great arsenal of healing powers. His family, after 4 generations, say his powers still exist. |
Except for the tomb and a bedouin graveyard, there is also a small village which gets support from the World Food Organization.
Just north of Sheikh Awaad are the remains of an early bronze age settlement (3000 - 2700 BC) with circular huts, corrals and burial tumuli.
