Lake Bardawil is part of the Zerenika Protectorate, covering 220 km2. Lake Bardawil is probably an imperfect transliteration of Baldwin, a crusader king who built a fortified post nearby. It is a long stretch of water separated from the Mediterranean Sea by a narrow limestone barrier, forming a large marshy lagoon with a surface area of 148,000 acres.
Lake Bardawil is a stopover place for many migratory birds and a major nesting area, making it an area of great natural importance. |
